Hallux valgus – from etiology to treatment, practical remarks

Author(s): MAREK NAPIONTEK

About 150 operative techniques in the treatment of hallux valgus were described. It means that there is no universal one. Hallux valgus is a complex and multiplanar deformity, thus it should be treated together with other deformations in the foot. Number of techniques and algorithms in the treatment of hallux valgus causes problems especially for physicians specializing in orthopedics and traumatology. In this review article a therapeutic algorithm based on J.A. Mann’s conception is presented, including the division of congruent and non-congruent malformations. Practical information about right choice making of indications in an individual case is given additionally to the algorithm.
