Short foot muscles are the least understood element of human foot. Their function has for long been regarded unimportant for foot mechanics. This paper summarises recent progress in understanding intrinsic muscles’ role in foot function. Their role in quiet standing, in walking cycle as well as their possible relation to plantar fasciitis has been presented.
