The aim of the study consists in the demonstration of the efficacy of Medipatch Gel Z and Medigel Z dressings in the treatment of burn scars. The study encompassed the patients hospitalized in the Burn Treatment Center in the period from November 2006 to January 2008. The material comprised 37 sample surfaces, namely burn scars of various body parts in 30 patients. The surveillance involved patients both receiving conservative treatment and those subjected to surgical therapy. The dressing was applied to scars on a daily basis for a three-week period for 12 hours a day. The treatment was continued as an outpatient therapy as recommended by the dressing manufacturer. The efficacy of the dressing was evaluated in objective (photograph-based) and subjective terms (self-developed scale, patient’s affective reactions). Results: in the majority of cases a satisfactory cosmetic effect of Medipatch Gel Z and Medigel Z dressings was achieved without any side effects. Conclusions: (1). Médipatch Gel Z and Médigel Z dressings considerably boost the esthetic properties and elasticity of scars while gaining high patients’ tolerability. (2).The product may be easily applied to body surfaces that fail to lend themselves to pressure therapy. (3).The gel evinces hypoallergic properties. (4). Médipatch Gel Z and Médigel Z dressings may be applied simultaneously with compression clothing to add to the overall optimal therapeutic effects.
