Midtarsal joint – an underestimated cause of painful ankle in multimodality diagnostic imaging

Author(s): MARCIN P. DZIANACH

Among the integral parts of the largely spoken, functional ankle joint, an articulation between talus and navicular bone, and calcaneus with cuboid bone, called altogether Chopart joint can be found. Clinical importance of the lesions in this region combined with easiness of the diagnostic algorithms make them worthy a wider popularization. The benefits from either early treatment of acute trauma or evaluation of the cause of chronic complaints balance well the potential costs of radiological evaluation. The objective of this paper is to discuss the less common findings in radiological imaging of the bones’ and ligaments’ lesions in Chopart joint as well as a complex analysis of talonavicular coalition.
