Efficacy of sonographic imaging of the musculoskeletal system increases constantly, that is why its’ popularity also rises and standards for certain structures examinations are being worked out. Ultrasound is of extraordinary efficiency in evaluation of talocrural joint injuries, thanks to superficial localization of its stabilizers. The aim of this dissertation is presentation of the actual state of art in sonographic imaging technique of the lateral compartment ligaments of ankle joint, enriched with authors’ experience and modifications of the examination methods. In the second part differentiation between ligaments’ lesion grades is discussed as well as delayed morphological and functional consequences in these structures possible to visualize in dynamic sonography.
