Traumatology: for Altruists only?

Present orthopaedics and traumatology of movement system confront new challenges. Armed in modern knowledge, perfect equipment and operational technologies, they are able, as it would seem, treat effectively almost all sick persons, including these with injuries. But, bad organization of treatment, numerous social and economic conditions, as well as very high – not only professional requirements aimed at orthopedists who are not compensated by sufficient professional satisfaction, and discouraged by circumstances of the profession and larger and larger medical law threat stand in the way. Outlining the history and the present of the mentioned branches of medicine, the authors try to convince a potential reader, including decision-makers, of the necessity of fundamental logistic changes, what can be summarized as “trauma centers”.
